**By Kim I.**One striking difference I found between the Goblet of Fire movie and the book is that Barty Crouch Jr.'s fate from the book is never discussed in the movie. At the end of the book, he is questioned by Dumbledore about his actions during the school year as he was impersonating Professor Moody, his loyalties to Voldemort, and how he escaped from Azkaban. The wizarding world believes Barty Jr. to be dead, having died in Azkaban years ago; however, under the influence of Veritaserum, Barty Jr. confesses that his mother took a Polyjuice Potion, switched places with him and allowed her beloved son another chance at life. These details, while an interesting parallel to the role of mothers in the series (such as Lily's sacrifice, Mrs. Crouch's sacrifice, and Merope's lack of sacrifice for her own son), are not essential to the story.
The piece of information about Barty Jr. that is important to the series, and curiously overlooked in the movie, is his final fate. In the movie, Barty Jr. does not receive the Dementor's Kiss on Fudge's orders, rendering him incapable to testify in court ever again, or account for the fact that LV is, indeed, back in corporal form. I have been wondering since OotP what will happen to Barty Jr. after the Dementors sided with LV in the war. Does this mean that Barty’s soul can be "extracted" and given back to him, or does the Kiss work in such a way that once the Dementors have taken a soul, it can never be regained by the host? I believe that the Dementors may be able to give Barty's soul back to him, and if this happens, I'm sure we'll see a lot more of ole Barty soon enough. Keep in mind, he is the most devoted and fanatical supporter of LV (rivaled perhaps only by the one and only Bellatrix Lestrange), and he would do anything LV told him to.
It is possible that I am reading too much into this omission, but I think that it is too much of a coincidence that the Dementors are the ones in possession of Barty's soul, and they are now sided with LV. I am not sure what Barty's role in Book 7 will be (he may even become a Back-Burner Death Eater like Wormtail, but I doubt it seeing as he is a much more powerful and devoted servant that Wormtail ever was), but I believe he will be a big player for LV in his quest to kill Harry. It seems like he is the DE poised to be LV's most important ally (seeing as Lucius and Bellatrix, his former "favorites," failed so miserably at the DoM in OotP), so I believe we may see him either protecting one or more of LV's Horcruxes, or at least participating in the final confrontation.
